Causes of Eyebrow Hair Loss

There are many causes for loss of Eyebrow Hair and these include:
Over Plucking:

This is one of the major causes of eyebrow hair loss. Many women go for grooming sessions too often so as to look presentable at all times. They do not understand that this can cause damage to the hair follicles of their eyebrows as they age.

Androgenic Alopecia:

This is a condition that you inherit from one of your parents. This is also called Female Pattern hair loss. Although this affects only the hair on your scalp, in rare cases it might even affect the eyebrows.

Aging:

Aging can cause your hair to get dryer and thinner. As a result you start losing hair, not just on your head but on other parts of your face and body too.

Atopic Dermatitis or Eczema:

This is characterized by itching, redness and inflammation of your skin. It is better to report such conditions to the doctor immediately before it starts affecting the skin around your eyebrows and cause hair loss.

Nutritional Deficiencies:

Nutrients such as proteins, vitamins, iron and zinc are very essential for your skin and hair growth. Deficiencies of such essential nutrients may even lead to hair loss on your eyebrows.

Hypothyroidism:

Under production of thyroid in your body can lead to a deficiency of oxygen in your body and as a result you may lose your eyebrow hair too. An iodine deficiency usually triggers such condition. Certain medications and a few types of cancers can also cause hair loss in your eyebrows, apart from the above.

Symptoms of Eyebrow Hair loss:

If you notice any thinning of your outer brows, it is better to consult your doctor immediately. If not, this loss may increase to occurrence of small patches around your eyebrows, which might even lead to total hair loss. If the cause is identified early, it can be treated immediately, which might even result in natural restoration of your eyebrows. Else, you may need an eyebrow transplant.

Diagnosis of Eyebrow Hair Loss:

Your doctor may diagnose your condition by examining your eyebrows. If this is not enough to find out the exact problem, you may have to go for a blood test or consent for a biopsy of the skin around your eyebrows. This will rule out certain conditions and help the doctor to diagnose the exact cause of your eyebrow hair loss.

Eyebrow Transplant Procedure:

FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction is the procedure that is used in Eyebrow Transplant. Here, healthy hair follicles are extracted individually from the back of your head, where the hair growth is supposedly continuous, and transplanted onto your eyebrow area, paying special attention to the direction and position so as to achieve natural results.

Through this you can achieve:
  • Eyebrows of an excellent shape
  • Restoration of hair that has been damaged due to over plucking
  • Replacement of hair that may be lost due to alopecia or any other reason

How it works?

  • The hair on your donor area or the back of your head is first trimmed until it is about 1mm in length.
  • Your donor area (back of your head) is smeared with a local anesthetic, after which the hair follicles are extracted one by one, using a precision tool
  • These follicles are prepared into grafts by dissecting them under a high powered microscope
  • A local anesthetic is then smeared around your eyebrow area and tiny incisions are made in order to place these follicular units
  • The grafts are then carefully placed into these incisions, taking care to follow the direction and the positioning of your existing hair perfectly.

Cost of Eyebrow Transplant:

Although Eyebrow transplant is much more affordable than scalp transplant, the exact cost can only be determined after evaluating the existing amount of hair on your eyebrows, the number of grafts required and the kind of shape and density you wish to achieve. As a result, this amount will vary from person to person. A consultation session with one of our experts will help you get this cost estimated exactly.
